Flying Eyes X Kris “Fungus” Caldwell

The DC-3 Smokejumper Legacy Project will take Kris “Fungus” Caldwell and a team of current smoke-jumpers to Missoula, Montana to fly and jump from the very C-47/DC-3 “Montana” that dropped firefighters at the tragic 1949 Mann Gulch blaze.

Over two shoot days (June 30–July 1), they’ll capture the aircraft’s history, Kris earning his DC-3 SIC checkout, a dramatic multi-camera jump sequence, and if time allows an aerial visit to Mann Gulch itself.

The footage will be crafted into a flagship YouTube episode, short-form social clips, and photo assets, paired with a print feature in EAA Sport Aviation. Flying Eyes is invited to supply eyewear, claim affiliate commissions, and test the partnership on tangible deliverables before potentially backing future, higher-profile shoots aboard carriers, Cobras, and Apaches.
